	Welcome WELCOME NEW HAMILTONIANS! The YMCA Career Development & Learning Centre is pleased to announce a new community initiative for young newcomers to Canada. The Newcomer Information Centre for Youth (NiCY) is welcoming youth at its central location, careerworx, 23 Main Street East (Mon. to Fri. 9am to 5pm. Call 905.540.9679). NiCY is a full-service drop-in centre for youth between the ages of 13 and 24 that are new to the Hamilton area and/or Canadian culture. NiCY offers a full suite of support services that include the following: 1. Initial Needs Assessment These are the needs that you come in to see us with. Our job is to support these needs or help bring to surface additional needs you didn`t think you had. 2. Referral to Community Services A key service to you and our program. NiCY associates have access to a multitude of programs and services that will help you towards your settlement goal. 3. Information / Orientation Here you`ll receive information and support on what you`ll need to know during your first few years in Canada. This information is highly targeted towards the feelings and needs of you and your family. 4. Access to Interpretation / Translation NiCY associates will provide interpretation services directly or facilitate an interpreter to enable you to communicate in your first language. 5. Solution-Focused Counselling Short-term counselling that is focused towards small challenges, adjustments and problems that clients might face. This will help you achieve some success early. 6. Employment Related Services & Job Search Workshops Again, individualized one-on-one assistance, education and resources, that will help you seek and retain employment at Canada. 7. Service Bridging Service bridging is promoting, educating, and acting as a link between NiCY and community groups that may not be aware of issues related to newcomers in Hamilton.
